National Trails Day

June 1st is National Trails Day. MTVRA is a nonprofit 501c7 club that has actively helped protect and maintain our local public Montana trail systems for all types of users over the past several decades. This has been made possible by passionate volunteers, devoted MTVRA members, private grants, and government grants.

One of our main on the ground efforts that MTVRA facilitates is a heavy mechanized trail maintenance program that hires contractors with Sutter / Sweco dozers and other specialized equipment to rework trail sections with sustainable tread design.

For 2024, MTVRA has scheduled out our largest most ambitious program ever. In active partnership with with 2 BLM offices and 9 different USFS Ranger Districts throughout Montana, MTVRA has major mechanized trail maintenance projects scheduled from April all the way through the end of October this year.

To start 2024, MTVRA partnered with Bureau of Land Management – Montana/Dakotas in April to rework trail tread at the Ah-Nei Recreation area near Shepherd MT (north of Billings). This is the first time MTVRA have been able to hire a multi-dozer team of contractors working at the same time on a project. This was done in an attempt to double the miles of completed work within the time period we were able to dedicate to that project.

Now get out there and enjoy National Trails Day with us!
