Trail Repair in Fire Burned Area

MTVRA was able to schedule a 2nd week helping the Helena Ranger District with trail maintenance on some fire scorched areas to the NE of Helena, MT in the Helena-Lewis and Clark National Forest.

An excerpt from the contractor’s report = Helena Ranger District trail work consisting of drain dip construction and repair, tread reconditioning to fill in deep ruts and to remove outsloped tread. Several deadfall trees were removed from trails, allowing correction of the trails to their original routes. User created bypass sections were decommissioned. Climbing turns and switchbacks were reworked for safe and sustainable navigation. Several standing dead trees on the uphill side of the trails were felled to prevent trees from falling onto trails in the future. Over 100 rolling dips and/or drains were constructed or repaired on Neversweat trail (241) alone. Cave Gulch (243) and Holiday Gulch (245) also saw over 50 dips and or drains constructed.

If the weather cooperates, we are hoping to schedule another week or two of work in the area near the end of the riding season before hunting season kicks in.
